Well, we’ve decided to sell our boat.  Not because we don’t like it, but because we don’t have the time to use it right now.  I expect we’ll revisit being sailboat owners in a couple years..  Let me know if you are interested..

This is a wonderful sailing boat, very fast upwind and comfortable cruising.

The Cal 2-29 is a Bill Lapworth design and is a cruiser/racer class sloop. Bred from the same cloth as the famous Cal 40.

  • Hi there – Found your blog when I was Googling Farymann 12hp Cal 2-29.

    I’m in the processing of buying a 76 Cal 2-29 with a 12hp Farymann and some of your stories are scaring me! The survey is Monday.

    But I was wondering what kind of miles per gallon you had in your Cal with the Farymann.

    • Don’t worry too much. The Cals are stout boats and as long as you prepare for the worst and pay attention you won’t have many issues. Sailing is an adventure anyway. Even new boats have issues now and then.

      Our Cal 2-29 had a 20 gallon Diesel tank and we were seeing somewhere around a pint and a quart of fuel per hour at 5.5-6 knots. The condition of the engine will make some difference. We averaged less than a tank a year so it’s hard to really gauge the consumption accurately.
