Cal 2-29sailingstory

Sea Trials

We took the boat out for sea trials on the day of the survey to make sure it floats. On board we had the Surveyor, owner, myself, my girlfriend, and her dad. The weather was slightly rainy, about 45 degrees F, with winds 15-20mph. Despite the cold and rain, it was a good day for a sail. Especially considering it was December in the Northwest.

The boat has a standard mainsail, 115% genoa, 150% genoa, and a spinnaker in it’s reporatoir, we only used the mainsail and 115% genoa during the sail. The farymann is 31 years old but only 5 years since it’s first and only rebuild. The little one-banger started right up and had no problem pushing us at 6knots which is near the max hull speed.

Later, with sails working and engine shutdown the boat heeled over 30 degrees and scooted up to 9 knots like it was no big deal. This Cal is fast, and very responsive to controls and trim. After a few hours of sailing we headed back in for the rest of the survey. All in all a really good time.
