Single-Handing And A Nice Long Sail
We woke up this morning at Point Defiance Marina. We had lunch reservations at Tillicum Village and had to arrive on Blake Island by 11AM. Although it was a pretty short trip, I set my alarm for 7AM and hopped out of bed.
I absolutely love waking up before everyone else on the boat. I love the quiet alone time, when I can sit outside and just relax, or maybe get a few things done. So, when I had the opportunity this morning, I took it.
But, I also was eager to get underway, since we hadn’t raised the sails yet on our trip, and there wasn’t much wind, so we’d need some extra time to get to Blake Island under sail. So, I tried my hand at casting off single-handed, and much to my surprise it went very smoothly! This was a pretty big deal for me, since some of you may know my docking-related anxiety is really pretty bad. But, getting out this morning was nice and relaxing.
It wasn’t long before Rich was up on deck, the coffee was made, and we set the sails for a nice, lackadaisical downwind cruise.
We arrived at Tillicum Village right on time, and were lucky enough to get a spot on the dock. (It’s completely packed here at Blake Island!) We headed in for our lunch and the show, and unfortunately Katherine missed much of it – although her seasickness is better, she’s now getting landsick when she gets off!
But, I just can’t stop thinking about what a nice little sail we had this morning! Hopefully we’ll get a little more in tomorrow before heading back through the locks and into the grind…
