Barkley Sound Day 7 – MOB (Mobile overboard) and Sushi for Dinner…

Woke up to a beautiful morning! Got the girls up for breakfast and packed a few items for the fishing excursion. Capt’n Pete came by around 7:30am to check on us and said to be ready at 8:30am. So we finished up breakfast and secured the boat. Then we took a ride in Pete’s dinghy over to the public dock and hopped aboard M/Y Dunn Deal.

After a stop for fuel and another stop for lunch sandwiches at the market we were out into the channel and making way. Pete set up two poles on downriggers and went to work. The girls settled in on the couch in the cabin, eating snacks and generally getting antsy.

We fished for a few hours, had lunch, the girls watched two movies, and we caught a few salmon as we hoped, one of which was quite good sized. In the mayhem that preceded bringing one of these fish aboard, Devon quite literally threw her iPhone into the water, never to be seen again. After a mild panic attack, she calmed down and realized that it was nice to not have that crutch for the meantime. The only real downside is that some of the video and photos of catching these fish was lost with the phone.

A bit past 2pm it was time to head in, with a quick stop to pick up a crab pot (with 3 nice Dungeness inside) and then it was photos near the dock and back to our boat. The weather today was fantastic!! Sunny, warm, clear… Couldn’t ask for a better day on the water.

Pete fileted the fish and sent most of it off to a vacuum packer but gave us the crab legs and filets from one of the fish. Then Devon outdid herself making Seattle Rolls from the fresh raw salmon and boiled up the crab. The girls needed a shower so we fired up the genset to make water, heat up the water heater, and charge the batteries while the kids got all clean.

Ellie was super tired and got ready for bed but changed her mind when dinner was ready. Morgan refused to eat for reasons we don’t really understand and later went to bed with a string cheese and carrots. We feasted on sushi rolls and crab for an eternity, after which the girls went to bed and I started to write this post, along with yesterdays post since I was behind a bit.

Tomorrow we ACTUALLY LEAVE BAMFIELD and head to our next spot. But not before we fuel up and get our vacuum packed and flash frozen salmon from Capt’n Pete.. Oh, and pay him for his services.
