Review: Magma Nestable Non-Stick Stainless Steel Cookware (10-Piece Set) (Model No. A10-365L)

Score: 4.5 out of 5

Summary:  Cooks great; huge space-saver.  The only reason we couldn’t give it a full five stars is that the handle melted when we left it over an open flame for too long (cosmetic damage only).

Pros:  The Magma Set’s size – less than 1/2 cubic foot when fully nested – makes it perfect for boats, car camping, and anywhere else space is in short supply. The removable handle – which slides on and off easily, but locks in place to prevent accidents – demonstrates that those folks over at Magma didn’t miss a thing when designing this set.

We have the stainless steel version, not the teflon-coated non-stick version.  But, you’d never know it because clean-up is a breeze.  The pots and pans cook well and heat evenly, to minimize the burned or undercooked bits. Another bonus is that it’s made of marine-grade (non-magnetic) stainless steel, which means that you’ll be hard-pressed to get this to rust.  (We may have left ours out in the rain on numerous occasions…oops.  Note that the induction model is made of a different steel since it needs to be magnetic to work, so we don’t know how that metal performs in a marine environment.)

This set is also durable. We’re certainly not gentle with our gear, and the only damage these pans sustained was when we accidentally exposed the handle directly to the burner for several minutes; the handle is a dense plastic that began to bubble, but it cooled off quickly, and aside from some cosmetic damage, it continues to perform like a pro.

The best part about this set?  You won’t need a single other pot or pan, because whoever designed this collection was clearly a cook and made sure it would include everything you need.

Cons:  Not many.  The steel’s quality makes this set heavier than most, weighing in at about 10 pounds.  Also, as mentioned above, we managed to melt a dent in one of the handles by setting it on an exposed cooktop flame.
